Sewage Treatment Plant

INFORMATION

The Sewage Treatment Plant was originally constructed in 1967 and over the years there have been several major updates taking place in 1976, 2013, and 2022. The plant is permitted to process up to 0.75 million gallons per day of wastewater before discharging into the Schuylkill River. There are over six miles of conveyance lines that wastewater flow through to the wastewater treatment plant and some of the these conveyance lines are conveying wastewater from portions of Perry Township.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Employees in this department are responsible for daily operations to ensure public health, environmental safety, and permit limit requirements.

KEY DUTIES INCLUDE:

• Daily plant walk-throughs physically inspecting equipment such as pumps, blowers and screens looking for leaks, clogs, and abnormal sounds.

• Collecting and analyzing sewage samples for pH, dissolved oxygen and other particulates to ensure biological processes are healthy.

• Maintaining equipment such as lubrication, changing chemical tanks and performing preventative maintenance. • Required reporting of data documentation and tests to verify compliance with discharge regulations.
